Monitoring Compliance
Each commercial carrier and its employees have specific regulatory requirements they comply with.
The requirements will differ, depending on how you register your organization, but nonetheless, if you operate commercial vehicles for your business's operation, there are specific requirements laid out in the regulations that your organization must comply with.

Pivotal Transportation Industry Solutions offers affordable packages to commercial carriers, providing monitoring services to ensure their safety & maintenance program, policies, and procedures and required files are living documents and are being complied with, post-collision reviews and evaluations, and carrier profile monitoring. If your business is uncertain if you're operating within the boundaries of compliance and desire a second look, then we encourage you to contact us today!

Depending on how you have registered your commercial carrier organization, will depend on the required programs, policies, and procedures your organization and employees will be required to comply with. There is two commercial carrier operating statuses in Alberta, for example:

A federal carrier includes any commercial truck, tractor, or combination that is used for business purposes and is registered for greater than 4,501 KG and travels outside of Alberta.

A provincial carrier includes any commercial truck, tractor, or combination that is used for business purposes and is registered for greater than 11,793 KG and stays within Alberta.

Again, depending on how you register, there are specific requirements for maintaining documentation in dedicated files, known as Driver Files and Vehicle Files. It is crucial for carriers to comply with these requirements, for a number of reasons.

First, the regulations are quite clear on what is required to be maintained, and operating within the boundaries of compliance means that your business meets and exceeds all regulatory requirements.

Second, and equally, as important, a carrier will need to show they meet and exceed all requirements if they are ever in a situation where they are audited, and possibly sued. Not maintaining the required documentation could lead to failed audits, or be deemed negligent.

In the province of Alberta, all collisions that happen involving one of your NSC commercial vehicles will appear on your carrier profile and will be assigned points that add to your risk rating, regardless of who's fault the collision actually was.

Because of this process, carriers have the opportunity to evaluate all collisions, by following a specific process communicated by Alberta Transportation. We work closely with carriers to help complete this process in a timely manner, to help protect not only their carrier profile but help keep their insurance rates down!

As most carriers are aware, insurance rates continue to climb, and you need to do everything in your power to help mitigate these costs, such as completing collision evaluations! Contact us today and we can help!

Pivotal Transportation Industry Solutions works closely with carriers on a monthly basis, to review their carrier profile (basically, a carrier's report card) to identify any areas of non-compliance that occurred and create a corrective action plan the carrier can utilize to improve moving forward.

The positive results of a clear corrective action plan help carriers, and their staff, understand not just what went wrong but how we can work together to improve moving forward. This can include items such as speed concerns, cargo securement, maintenance issues or mechanical defects, and more.
