Tracking Consistencies
In our industry, it can be quite common for there to be unknowns as you start the day. Unknowns such as; weather, mechanical failures, canceled orders, technology mishaps, just to name a couple.
In addition, there are a lot of unknowns with people, may it be health-related, personal and family issues, etc. When I’m faced with an environment of unknowns, one thing that I try and do is read people’s consistencies, and act accordingly.
What I mean by this is, say boss John is grouchy every Tuesday morning. If I know this behavior is consistent, regardless of the reason, I can navigate my morning in a way so that I am not impacted by his mood.
Although that is a simple example, I think it shines a light on other areas you may go in a day where you can pick up on people’s consistencies. At a customer where the receiver is grumpy, at the scale house where the environment may be tense.
When you identify consistency in your environments, you’re able to respond accordingly to help ensure you can perform at the level expected of you.
As you continue to navigate your day, I encourage you to keep an eye out for consistencies and utilize these moments to really push forward in your performance.
Have a safe day!
