Speed Kills - written by Anthony Butkovic WCB Consulting.ca

Speed Kills.

You might be wondering…what does this have to do with Workers Compensation (WCB)?

Well, it’s more the inability to control the speed that creates the issue.

A professional driver understands their ability, their machinery, conditions of the road, and how to make it all work.

An amateur first learning how to drive struggles with getting a feel for the vehicle and what to watch out for to prevent a loss of control.

Claims management isn’t any different. When a worker reports an injury a claim can get moving quite quickly.

If you don’t have a feel or experience for what to do…you can lose control and it will cost you.

How do you get control of a WCB claim?

That comes from understanding the system.

For example, a driver understands what their vehicle can and cannot do and under different conditions. Speed is adjusted to reach the destination.

A claim is the same. You want to know:

  • What WCB uses and consider when accepting a claim

  • What information they need

  • Have an internal WCB program to guide all stakeholders when/if a worker reports a possible injury

  • Communication strategy

  • Action plans if things get out of control

  • A target and GPS to reach it.

If the thought of having a WCB claim raises questions for you or makes you feel uncomfortable, know that WCBconsulting.ca has plenty of resources to help you get and maintain control of a WCB claim.
