Winter Preparation - What Do You Need in The Cab?
Updated: Feb 21, 2021
As you could imagine, there are hundreds of items that need to be readily available while operating a commercial vehicle during the winter months. So many questions, so many answers!
From my experience in Western Canada, the list compiled would relate more to an over-the-road professional driver traveling through the mountains from one major city to another. For those traveling through smaller towns, the flats, or wherever the road takes you, such items required to carry can differ.
First and foremost, you need to ensure you prepare items that will keep you warm in the event of a tractor breakdown. For this, I encourage:
For clothing, I highly encourage you to visit your local Mark's Work Wearhouse, as they carry a large variety of gear that can help with your needs. In addition, SportChek carries a wide variety of supplies that can meet your winter needs.
Other important items that you will need in the cab will vary, depending on where you are traveling to and for how long. I recommend visiting your local Canadian Tire store to pick up these items, as they do a wonderful job pricing fairly and offering discounts. Such items would be:
Fuel source in the event a fire is needed to keep you warm
Non-Perishable Food Items (keep in mind that you do not want to become dehydrated based on what you are eating)
Advil or Tylenol (if required)
There are hundreds of other possibilities that could be located in the cab of the tractor, such as an Ipad, Computer, Printer, Cell Phone, Chargers, etc. What other items do you keep in the cab of your tractor?
