Focusing on Empathy Over Performance Management w/ Oriana Kolonsky Ep #81

Friends in the industry –

A couple of years ago, I went through a training course that was dedicated to improving our ability to navigate through difficult conversations in the workplace.

Two key takeaways from the course for myself were this:

First, is the power of remembering someone’s name. If you think about it, only a few things in life can be claimed as our own, such as our name. When someone remembers my name after an introduction and USES my name in a conversation, it makes me feel pretty good as often this important step is missed.

Second, I learned that one of the best ways to prevent a situation from going from bad to worse is by investing time and energy into preventing the situation from occurring in the first place.

This could be prevention of workplace physical injury, or this could be preventing workplace violence.

In today’s episode, I am excited to speak with my friend and workforce & industry specialist Oriana Zolonsky. In our conversation, we dive into what exactly is workplace violence, but also domestic violence, and what are the legal responsibilities employers have to help mitigate this from taking place.

Furthermore, we dive into how an empathic leadership approach, over performance management, pays huge dividends to your staff and company culture.
